Bad Oeynhausen,
For the fourth time in a row, the Herz- und Diabeteszentrum NRW (HDZ NRW) in Bad Oeynhausen has successfully completed the KTQ certification process in all clinical and administrative areas. The Center, specialized in the treatment of cardiac, vascular and diabetic diseases, and a university hospital of the Ruhr-University of Bochum since 1989, will now bear the quality seal of the Cooperation for Transparency and Quality in Healthcare (KTQ), first awarded in 2008, for another three years.
The HDZ NRW is a "fantastic hospital". This was the unanimous evaluation of the examiners after an intensive, 4-day testing process based on strict criteria for patient and employee orientation, safety and risk management, information and communication, business management, and quality management. The examining committee arrived at the conclusion that the HDZ NRW does everything to ensure the medical quality of its patient care, exercising great foresight and exemplary precaution. They found the areas IT and data protection to be managed with extreme care and attention. They also found the hospital to be honoring its responsibility as a major employer, offering its employees numerous opportunities and always endeavoring to take a future-proof approach in the light of increasingly difficult conditions across the clinical landscape.
It is a legal obligation for all hospitals to provide evidence of their internal quality management. Nevertheless: KTQ is a voluntary certification procedure which evaluates and certifies the quality not only of individual specialist departments, but of the overall process, from preparation for an in-patient stay to modalities for discharging patients. The decision to undergo KTQ certification was explained by CEO Dr. Karin Overlack and HDZ NRW Quality Management Officer Oliver Eickhoff as follows: "Having our internal hospital routines regularly called into question by the certification procedure forces us to make continual improvements, which in turn is hugely advantageous for everybody. Our employees have demonstrated once again that they not only share this attitude, but strongly support it. That is fantastic for our hospital and the only way to achieve such outstanding results."
