Bad Oeynhausen,
Accredited: The Institute for Anesthesiology and Pain Therapy performs special cardiac ultrasound examinations during cardiac surgery
The German Society for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (DGAI) has accredited the Herz- und Diabeteszentrum NRW (HDZ NRW), Bad Oeynhausen, as a certified training and assessment center for special cardiac ultrasound techniques during cardiac surgery, so-called "perioperative focused cardiac ultrasound (FoCUS)". The certificate was awarded jointly to the specialist departments of Anesthesiology at the HDZ NRW Bad Oeynhausen and the Bergmannsheil Bochum as University Hospitals of the Ruhr-University Bochum, as well to Münster University Hospital.
The DGAI has reacted to the growing requirements in perioperative medicine, especially during cardiac surgery, but also during cardiological interventions, with four new and revised further training modules. Courses will be offered from 2021 at both the HDZ NRW in Bad Oeynhausen and Münster University Hospital. Employees from all three accredited University Hospitals will teach theoretical and practical modules. Course participants will also learn standardized echocardiography step by step on a supervised echocardiography simulator, after which they will be able to apply their knowledge in practice.
"As a University Hospital and one of the largest Heart Centers in Europe, it is particularly important that we provide further and advanced training and pass on our acquired theoretical and practical knowledge to the next generation", Prof. Dr. med. Vera von Dossow, Director of the Institute for Anesthesiology and Pain Therapy at the HDZ NRW, explained. With her accredited team in Bad Oeynhausen, Prof. von Dossow performs more than 6,500 anesthetics and 4000 TEE (transesophageal echocardiography) examinations per year.
