Bad Oeynhausen,
Employees at the Herz- und Diabeteszentrum NRW (HDZ NRW), Bad Oeynhausen, were deeply affected by the racist attack in Hanau near Frankfurt last week. "There is a very strong feeling that we need to take a stand against nationalistic tendencies", said Prof. Dr. Jan Gummert, Medical Director of the University Hospital. "It has been suggested that we should further strengthen our existing public commitment to solidarity, acceptance and mutual respect, for example within the framework of Charta der Vielfalt (Diversity Charta), a national campaign in which the HDZ NRW has been involved for years."
His surgical team gathered for a spontaneous group photo. "We are a well-functioning team and want to show that as much respect is shown for our nationalities, religions and ideologies as it is for the dignity and individuality of our patients", stressed Nezahat Yildirim, OR coordinator for the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. "Without our specialists from abroad, we would be unable to maintain our surgical routines at the current level", Gummert said, adding that internationality is a key feature of the hospital's identity. It is what makes the HDZ NRW what it is – highly competent, colorful and diverse. "We are proud of our employees, who all work together within the organizational culture firmly anchored in the HDZ mission statement in order to give our patients the best possible treatment."
