Bad Oeynhausen,
The Herz- und Diabeteszentrum NRW (HDZ NRW), Bad Oeynhausen, now has the certificate of accreditation for a further training program of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology (EACTA). Led by Prof. Dr. Vera von Dossow, Director of the Institute for Anesthesiology and Pain Therapy, and Prof. Dr. Jan Gummert, Director of the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, the specialist hospital will now be able to offer 12-month training to specialists for anesthesiology as part of the "Ostwestfalen EACTA Fellowship" within the European further training program for Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. Twelve additional months of further training in intensive care medicine will also be possible.
"The program offers anesthesiologists at our University hospital excellent opportunities to expand their practical clinical skills and theoretical knowledge in the field of cardiac, thoracic and vascular anesthesia, for example in high-risk patients, and to pursue high-level further development using the very latest medical equipment", Prof. Vera von Dossow explained. "A huge advantage here is the Europe-wide recognition of the qualifications to be gained from the EACTA program, which simultaneously serve as preparation for the EACTA examination in transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)."
In order to be accepted to the EACTA Fellowship Program, the HDZ NRW had to participate in a comprehensive application and certification process, ending with an on-site inspection on 1st March 2019, in which the proposed training contents, structures and clinical conditions all came under close scrutiny. "As one of the leading heart centers and centers of reference in Europe, we were sure that the procedures at the HDZ NRW would meet the required criteria", Prof. von Dossow and Prof. Gummert stressed. "But it was then all the more satisfying to hear specific praise for the excellent interdisciplinary structures at our hospital, and to receive no negative criticism at all."
Individually presented for inspection were the further training concept of the Institute for Anesthesiology, surgical intensive care medicine in the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, teaching and research at the HDZ NRW, the medical library with neighboring lecture theater and conference rooms, the operating rooms including hybrid OR and pediatric OR, the cardiac catheter laboratories, the Institute for Laboratory and Transfusion Medicine with its blood bank, the IT and information systems, as well as the interdisciplinary admission ward with functional diagnostics, premedication outpatients unit and echocardiographic diagnostics.
With immediate effect, applications for the first round of further training within the Ostwestfalen EACTA Fellowship program can be submitted by email to: auhlig@hdz-nrw.de.
